Visitors to Renishaw Hall will see the gardens as they've not been seen for 200 years when the Hall re-opens to the public on 30th March.
Over the winter months parts of the garden have been restored and opened up to reveal areas that have been hidden for two centuries, giving visitors a different view of the Hall. They're not the only changes to be seen this season at Renishaw Hall, which has been home to the Sitwell family since it was built in 1625. In May there will be the launch of the Royalty and Renishaw Exhibition at Renishaw Hall, with never before seen artefacts linking the Sitwell and Royal families.
Explained head gardener, David Kesteven: "The garden has seen more changes than it's seen for many years. The top lawn has been transformed to its former glory. It has always been an inspiring garden but these changes provide sweeping views towards the Hall that give a sense of a landscape park, which is how it was originally designed."
The garden entrance has also been opened up and the wisteria, magnolia and figs that grow against the South Front of the Hall have also been carefully thinned to show off the building's architecture.
Alexandra Sitwell, owner of Renishaw Hall & Gardens said: "There's so much to celebrate this year and here at Renishaw we are really getting behind the Queens' Jubilee. Visitors will be able to come and visit our Royalty and Renishaw exhibition from mid May. Over the Jubilee weekend, I'll be lighting a beacon on the roof of the Hall, and there will be a special horse and carriage procession with my family's carriage on show amongst other fine examples from across the region."
She continued: "We've tailored the events this year to suit all ages and tastes, from Easter egg hunts in April through to food and plant fairs in May and August, specialist garden tours throughout the summer months, and not forgetting our vineyard tours which this year

Adrian Woodhouse is cataloguing Renishaw Hall's books with Richard Hill. Of all the many items that we have found inside Renishaw's books over the past year, none has turned out to be more poignant than the photograph that Richard discovered a few months ago tipped into a 19th century volume in Alexandra's first-floor sitting-room. The postcard-sized photo was a head and shoulders image of a smiling young man in naval uniform. From its style and sepia tone it looked 1940s, possibly wartime. In pencil on the reverse was a name, "A. Moxon", and "Please return to Mrs J Moxon, 25 Station Road, Eckington".
